The Bug Geek

Insects. Doing Science. Other awesome, geeky stuff.

Good match.

So I toddled over to the University of Nearby yesterday afternoon for a meet-n-greet with Dr. O.

We chatted, swapped ideas, he sent me some reading, we shook hands and agreed to stay in touch over the next few months.

It doesn’t sound like much, but I left there smiling. We both got a bit excited about the research area I was thinking about exploring (parasitism of snake/reptile nests by carrion beetles – which, if you know about carrion beetles, is just plain WEIRD). I think we clicked, and I think we’re both feeling like this is a (academic) relationship we’d like to pursue.

I’m still going to chat with Dr. B later this week, but if that doesn’t pan out, I’m feeling extremely comfortable with the idea of working with Dr. O.

The fear is starting to lift, and I’m starting to get excited about this whole school thing.
