Boy, this is galling…

I can’t recall ever seeing insect galls on a raspberry plant before, and yet:

These galls actually look like they’ve been raided by a bird.  Does anybody recognize this?  I can’t figure it out.  It’s galling

    Could be a gall wasp called Diastrophus rubi, which is more often found on brambles but sometimes occurs on raspberry….

    Gall drama would have made good fodder for Lovecraft I think. BTW, I’ve been meaning to compliment you on the name of your blog, it not only speaks of all those beetles built for tumbling but the human act of becoming humble in the face of nature’s majestic intricacies. Very very nice.

      Why, thank you! I thought it also rather appropriate for my own situation with my career path.
      I think next time I have a good gall picture to share, I’ll have to entitle it “Gall Drama”. Nice.

    It’s one of those phrases that tills up lot of very worthwhile associations. Falling to climb, that is. Not gall drama. Fall drama, on the other hand…
