Ezio looks greatly concerned

With what, I’m not entirely certain.  It could be the three dogs who never go away, especially the yellow one who likes to hang out directly beneath Ezio’s tree and stare and stare and stare.

It could be the cyclops below, who clicks and clicks incessantly, when all he wants to do is escape the confines of his tree cavity and get a breath of fresh air, and maybe groom a little bit.  He watches us work in the yard, as we mow and plant and build.    At dusk, he climbs down and meanders along the eastern fence line until he reaches the big Maple at the back of the property, the one with the cavity where carpenter ants continue to work.  I’m not sure why he performs this nightly ritual of moving from one tree to the other, but we appreciate his trusting presence.

I love that kind of worried/inquisitive look that raccoons give you. I actually bottle fed and raised an orphaned raccoon many years ago. He was a great! When he was very little we kept him in the house and he played with my dog and even went swimming in the pool with us. He was always amazingly entertaining even when he managed to pour a pound of sugar onto the kitchen floor.

Raccoons ARE great fun. I worked as a student intern at a wildlife rehabilitation centre one summer, and we were positively drowning in baby raccoons! Bottle-feeding the babies was one of my favourite jobs; the way they “purr” as they feed or when you scritch them behind the ears is just to die for!

Love the look! They’re such handsome creatures and pure delight to observe.
