Gear! And Stuff!

Holy shamolie.

I went to The University to pick up the bulk of my gear.  Then I went to eleventy-million hardware stores to get the remaining missing tidbits.   THEN I spread it all out in my living room and looked at the mounds and piles with dismay…how in the HECK was I supposed to fit all that stuff into four totes when three and a half were already full and I had a cardboard box the size of a tote full of more stuff?

Just call me Houdini.  Or The Geek The Great.   Somehow I got it all in.   BOO-YA!

I think when you have this much crap to take in the field, you get to call it An Expedition.

You’ll have help carrying all this, yes?

Sort of…I have a “helper” (a high school student from the village where I’ll be living), and an ATV. I won’t be bringing all this stuff out every day, but some days will require more gear than others; mainly the days when I’m setting up trapping grids etc will require heavy lifting.

Pete, that’s just the surface stuff…I’ve got it all unpacked again in my apartment…my couch is covered in terrestrial sampling gear (malaise, pitfalls, pans, sweeps, berlese, vials, whirl paks, ziplocks, quadrats, diggers)…my chair is covered in aquatic sampling gear (more vials, more nets, dip cups, ph meter and calibrators, rearing chambers, sorting trays), my coffee table is buring under spreading boards, boxes, and miscelany (killing jar, pinning stuff, surfactant, camera, duct tape, etc.) and I’ve got a few hundred vials of ethanol on the floor, and jugs of all kinds of preservatives on my kitchen counter. Phew!
